New York, NY and Bar Harbor, ME - The 2nd Annual Mount Desert Island Marathon (MDI) will be held Sunday, October 19, 2003 in Bar Harbor, ME. The course will take runners through this challenging yet picturesque landscape of the northeast United States. Ecomarathon.org recently named the MDI marathon (www.mdimarathon.com) as the “most scenic sports event in the entire USA.” The point-to-point, USATF certified marathon will begin at 8am. To properly prepare race registrants, the MDI Marathon race coordinators have selected Myicoach.com to provide online coaching.

“We were thrilled with the positive results our competitors achieved using the Myicoach programs, says Gary Allen the race director and founder. Many of our athletes, both seasoned and beginners ran very well in our inaugural event using the expert training advice and programs from Myicoach. I would highly recommend them. As a veteran of 40 marathons I signed on to try their training systems myself. My results speak for themselves. In 5 of the last 6 marathons I’ve run I have reached or bettered my goals.”

For the second year, the MDI Marathon has chosen Myicoach.com (www.myicoach.com) to provide event specific coaching for race registrants. The MDI Marathon, in conjunction with Myicoach.com, has created a marathon training program specific to this race. In addition to having an overall training program created for every level of runner, registrants will be able to enhance their training by utilizing the services of online coaching. Registrants of the training program will receive emails from Myicoach.com USATF certified coaches about training for a marathon. Participants will also have the opportunity to receive guidance about their personal training.

“We are excited to be a part of such a well organized event”, says Lowell Ladd, Director of Coaching for Myicoach.com. “Last year was a great experience for those who took part in the training program as well as the coaches working with the athletes. I predict this event will grow every year as word spreads and people visit this beautiful area of the United States.”

No two marathons are the same and creating event specific programs will enable out of town registrants to properly prepare for the 26.2-mile challenge. Those creating the training programs for race registrants are USATF certified coaches who are familiar with the race and the course terrain.

Runners and walkers will be aided by fluid replacement tables located approximately every 2 miles with Gatorade and water offered at all tables. Even though the weather may be cool, hydration before and during the race is essential. This, along with other important racing issues, will be covered by Myicoach.com throughout the 18 and 12-week training programs.
