FSU Students Join Together For a Weekend of Service; FSU Dance Marathon 2004: A Dream. A Dance. A Life. A Chance.
Tallahassee, FL February 17, 2004--More than 600 FSU students will remain standing for 32 consecutive hours next weekend to raise money for sick and injured children from the Tallahassee area. The ninth annual FSU Dance Marathon will be held February 21 and 22 at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. All money raised will benefit Children’s Miracle Network at Shands Children’s Hospital and the FSU College of Medicine’s pediatric outreach programs.
Since 1996, FSU Dance Marathon has raised over $610,000. The money raised helps treat sick and injured children from the Tallahassee community. Additionally, this money helps fund research and purchase diversionary items such as video games, computers and toys for children hospitalized for extended periods.
“FSU Dance Marathon is always a rewarding and memorable experience,” said Overall Director Chris Schuler. “Even though is it difficult to stand for 32 hours, it doesn’t compare to the pain of the Miracle Children.”
Students will stay motivated to stand for the entire 32 hours by participating in games, contests, theme hours and skits. Throughout the two days, Miracle Families will share their stories with the dancers to offer a source of inspiration. Performances by local bands, DJs, FSU Cheerleaders, FSU Golden Girls, local dance troupes and appearances by FSU athletes and community leaders will also help the students remain standing.
The Tallahassee community is invited to attend FSU Dance Marathon 2004. Donations accepted at the door. During the closing ceremonies, FSU Dance Marathon will give away the “Miracle Mobile,” a 2004 Honda Civic courtesy of the Proctor Dealerships and Farmers and Merchants Bank. Tickets can be purchased for a suggested $5 donation. For more information about ticket sales and the “Miracle Mobile,” please visit www.fsudm.org.
