Video Game Writer Attempts 48 Hour Non-Stop Gaming Marathon

“It started out, as most ideas do, as just a gag,” Sullivan says, “and then we [site editor Steven Webster decided it would be something worth doing if we can involve our readers, as well.”

As of press time, the site plans to make use of four consoles: Sony’s PlayStation 2, Nintendo’s N64 and Super NES systems, and Sega’s Dreamcast system, which was recently discontinued. Various sponsors for the event will be seeked out, mostly involving the video game industry, but both Sullivan and the site insist that this is a purely non-profit venture.

“Mostly this is for fun, and essentially to see what happens when you play games for two days without stopping,” Sullivan said, “I’ll probably lose my mind, but it’s all in the name of science.”

Readers of the site will be encouraged to not only submit their favorite games, but to also participate in various chatrooms and in online competition with Sullivan during the marathon. The site also has a few other surprises in store, alhough they refuse to elaborate at the moment.

At the end of the 48 hours, Sullivan will write a brief synopsis of the experience, then sleep. Following that, a longer, in-depth analysis will be published on the site.
